Confessions of a Young American Housewife - 1974

Unlike most of today's porn, 70's porn often had a sense of social consciousness. Some directors actually had some sort of a message to deliver, that was conveyed by the story line (yeah, a story in porn. What a concept.) and the actual sex scenes. In the best of cases, the sex scenes moved more than the viewer's crotch and affected his thinking. Let's be honest, we weren't dealing with Schindler's List, but there was some attempt to create conversation at least.

Today's example of thoughtful, if heavy-handed, 70's porn is Confessions of a Young American Housewife, starring the amazing Jennifer Welles and the lesser-known Rebecca Brooke. Originally shot as a softcore tease, later edits included some hardcore inserts. Frankly, the original edition isn't bad unless you just have to see all the anatomical parts.

As the movie opens we meet Carole (Rebecca Brooke) and her friend Anna (Chris Jordan), who is the stereotypical comical sidekick/ best friend. Anna has enough sideways looks and the ability to carry a one-liner that she could have been on a sitcom back in the day.

As the two ladies chat in Carole's apartment, a young brunette shows up expecting to meet Carole's husband. Instead of an argument, the three wait awkwardly in the kitchen until he finally comes home and sheepishly tries to explain her presence. No need. Carole just tells him to take her upstairs, which he promptly does. As she and Anna watch her husband fuck the stranger, Anna asks who she is. Carole responds, "just a young American housewife, getting her kicks". As we soon learn, Carole (and her husband) "gets her kicks" with Anna and her husband.  Ah, the swinging 70's.

And with that, the theme is set. We soon learn that Carole's mom, Jennifer (Jennifer Welles) is coming for a visit. Carole isn't pleased. Her mom was Housewife of the Year in 1963 and that, as Carole says, "is where my mother's head is." Carole the swinger is more than a little concerned about her prudish mom coming to visit. She is 37, widowed for two years, and has only done it with her late husband.

As soon as she arrives we see that Carole's husband clearly has a thing for her.

And why wouldn't he?

That night Carole invites her neighbors over for a little dinner dinner party. After Jennifer (aka Mrs. Robinson. Seriously.) goes up to bed, the guys can't stop talking about her. Anna is clearly bothered by the attention she is getting, so the rest of the group tries to cheer her up with a little sex and dirty incest talk.

The next day Anna's husband (Eric Edwards) makes an unsuccessful play for Jennifer. He got a nice feel of those amazing tits, but nothing more.

Jennifer is shocked by his behavior and immediately begins to pack. Anna explains the "relationship" between the two couples. Jennifer, of course is shocked, realizing "my baby is a husband swapper". Carole simply explains, "I'm a very hot, horny girl and I have been since high school." I'm not sure that would have worked in my house, but the reasoning was enough to calm Jennifer down so that she wouldn't leave.

 

Next time, mom listens and watches as her daughter blows Eric and her son-in-law fucks Anna.

 

She even watches her "baby girl" in some lesbian action. before Eric comes up stairs and scratches her 37 year old itch.

The next night the boys go bowling so the girls plan a night out, adding to Mom's education. They visit the exotic Shandara, who only receives them in "untainted clothes": which means see through nighties and no panties.

Mom is surprisingly compliant and soon the four of them wind up in some hot girl-girl-girl-action. Mom and daughter almost...

Along the way,  mom is clearly developing feelings for the young hunky delivery guy. The whole crowd watches from the hall as they fuck.

It seems like Carole isn't the only "hot and horny girl" in this family. Before long, Jennifer has sampled everyone in her daughters swinging circle including Anna and her own son in law. Then she suddenly prepares to leave with her delivery man. The rest of Carole's little group of swingers is confused by her sudden departure. Carole knows though. She and Mom were developing feelings that they could never express for one another. Well, not until 1980, at least, when Kay Parker broke that Taboo.
